As a synonym for the Indian film industry the colloquial term "Bollywood" is widespread. This term originated in the 1970s and dealt exclusively with Hindi entertainment films. The cross word "Bollywood" includes the components of Bombay and Hollywood.
There is no typical Bollywood-movie, but a successful production should have all the nine rasas, the traditional ingredients of traditional Indian art includes: love, heroism, disgust, humor, horror, strange, anger, pathos and peacefullness.
Since the mid-1990s rather love movies dominate that often center about lavish weddings. In contrast to Western cinema in Bollywood-movies there is practically no kissing and sex scenes are shown only very rarely.
Quite typical of Bollywood-films are dance music scenes (as in western musical), in which the dancers wear colorful fluttering robes and towels and gorgeous glittering jewels.
